In the March Issue of OSU’s Women in Science Newsletter, I interview geographer Shireen Hyrapiet on her research on development geographies of the Global South.
The New York Times highlighted Hyrapiet’s research on rickshaw pullers in 2014, and her work at OSU ranges from teaching undergraduate courses on non-Western geography to disaster mapping. Despite a full schedule, she finds time to continue her research in human geography, with her latest study delving into the ways National Geographic portrays African and Asian people in photographs.
